Ansys Mechanical result: equivalent von Mises stress along a layered composite tube, peaking at 186 MPa

Composite bike frame

Ansys ACP and Mechanical · January 2025 · [context]

Built a layered composite model of a [carbon / glass]-fibre bike frame tube in Ansys ACP, defining the ply stack-up, fibre orientations and rosettes, then brought the plies into Ansys Mechanical for a static structural analysis. With the tube fixed at one end and loaded with a combined force and moment, it deflected 19.3 mm at its tip, with a peak elastic strain of 0.36% and a peak von Mises stress of 186 MPa. [What you concluded or changed in the layup.]

Total deformation of the composite tube, up to 19.3 mm at the free end
Equivalent elastic strain in the outer ply of the composite tube, up to 0.0036

3D thermal FEA

GT-SUITE · University project · 2023

Built a 3D thermal model of an EV battery casing with conduction and convection boundary conditions, and used it to redesign the casing for 15% greater heat dissipation than the incumbent design. Carried out under an NDA, so no simulation imagery from this project can be shown here.
